ECW August Gathering
The Rev. Mary Frances Curns of St. Anne’s, Jacksonville, presents "Praying with the Hymns." It is a prayer practice that allows for the participants to 'hear' what God is stirring up in them and to reflect on their own personal lives to find the connections to healing, comfort, challenges, forgiveness etc. It requires participation only if you feel led to do so.
Our schedule for the day will be as follows:
9:00 Registration
9:45 Assembly Begins
11:30 Holy Eucharist
12:30 Lunch
The cost for refreshments, lunch, and the use of Trinity Center facilities is $18.00 per person. Please send checks made out to “ECW Diocese of East Carolina” along with the names of all persons attending to:
Ginger Jacocks at 304 Shoreline Drive, Cedar Point, NC 28584
Phone number: (252) 393-8083 and e-mail jacocks@ec.rr.com

Planning for Children's Sunday School
Last month, we had a gainful talk with parents about ideas for shaping the 2014-15 children's Sunday school program. With a potential 70 participating children this fall, we want to continue our collaboration with parents on new plans, which include a class designed specifically for 3 to 4-year-olds, in addition to the nursery, K-3rd grades, and 4th-5th grades. If you have children under 12, please join us for the next talk this Sunday in Hauser Hall. Learn what will be new for next year and how you can help build a strong Sunday school for children.

Acolyte Recognition Day
On this day we will honor our young people who serve as Acolytes at St. John’s. Acolytes assist the priest with worship services: they carry the cross, torches, and flags during the procession, and they help the priest prepare for Communion. As acolytes, youth cultivate leadership and responsibility within the church. We are very proud of these young members of our parish and hope that you will thank them for the time they devote to this special ministry.
Conversation and Eucharist with Rt. Rev. Lee
The Rt. Rev. Peter Lee celebrates Eucharist with us, followed by dinner and conversation to help develop a broader understanding of the resolution and liturgy for the blessing of same-sex relationships.
At our annual retreat this year, the Vestry agreed to familiarize ourselves with the current position of the Episcopal Church and our diocese on the blessing of covenanted unions. It is an honor to welcome Bishop Peter Lee, on May 21, who will help guide a discussion on this ministry at dinner, as well as celebrate Eucharist with us at 5:15 p.m. The Vestry believes that the timing is right to collectively and prayerfully begin dialogue and discernment, and we hope to have a good turnout to welcome Bishop Lee and participate in this important discussion. If you wish to learn more about this ministry, please read John Holmes' full article in The Epistle or on our website.
