Lay Leadership

The laity lead the Church by bringing their faith into everyday life and guiding its mission through their gifts and witness.

  • Altar Guild

The Altar Guild at St. John’s is a lay ministry dedicated to preparing and caring for the sacred space used in worship. Their work includes setting up the altar for the Eucharist and other services, maintaining and cleaning the linens, vestments, and sacred vessels, arranging flowers, and ensuring that the worship space reflects beauty, order, and reverence.

  • Acolytes and Lay Ministers

At St. John’s, acolytes and lay ministers play a vital role in shaping the rhythm and reverence of worship. Acolytes assist at the altar by carrying the cross, lighting candles, and supporting the clergy during the liturgy, helping the congregation enter more deeply into prayer. Lay ministers extend this service by proclaiming Scripture, leading the Prayers of the People, administering the chalice, and offering hospitality and guidance to worshippers. Together, these dedicated volunteers embody servant leadership, ensuring that every service is carried out with dignity, beauty, and a shared sense of devotion.

  • Ushers, Greeter, and Readers

At St. John’s, ushers, greeters, and readers help create a welcoming and prayerful worship experience for everyone who walks through the doors. Greeters offer the first expression of hospitality, extending warmth and kindness that sets the tone for the service. Ushers guide the flow of the congregation—assisting with seating, distributing bulletins, collecting the offering, and helping ensure that all feel comfortable and supported. Readers proclaim the Scriptures with clarity and reverence, inviting the community to hear God’s Word. Together, these ministries embody the spirit of service and fellowship that defines St. John’s, making worship both accessible and deeply meaningful.
