Family Promise

St. John's is once again hosting temporarily homeless families at the church during the week of August 7-13. Volunteers are needed to help provide evening meals and to serve as overnight hosts. We are calling on the youth of St. John's to help with set up and break down of the Sunday School classrooms, which is where the families stay overnight. If you have an interest in helping or would like more information about Family Promise, please contact Ruth Gates at starfire47@hotmail.com or Sybil Sasaki at sybilsasaki@hotmail.com

Family Promise Hosting

St. John's is pleased to continue participation in Family Promise Hosting. Formerly known as Cumberland Interfaith Hospitality Network, Family Promise Hosting allows families without a place to live to transition into a home.

Together the program provides much more than "shelter." The Host Congregations work on a rotation basis, providing overnight accommodations at their churches or other designated facility. They host the families, overnight, a week at a time, approximately four times per year. They provide a buffet style dinner, breakfast and a packed lunch to go. Volunteers create and organize activities for the children, extend a listening ear to the parents, and very often furnish referrals to employment, direct assistance with household furnishings, basic need items, financial assistance, and the list goes on. -from the CIHN official website

Stop Hunger Now

Stop Hunger Now ships dehydrated meal packets to hungry nations all over the world. On Sept. 20 at St. John's, we will pack 10,000 meals! All ages are welcome! All deanery churches and other friends are invited, too! We also need contributions to pay for the $2900 in supplies that comprise the 10,000 packages. According to math, that's just 29 cents per meal. Please make your donation check to St. John's with SHN on the memo line. For more information, contact David Guzman guzmand59@hotmail.com or Judy Klinck jbklinck@aol.com.

YAC Winter Outreach Project

Young Adults in the Church (YAC) is the final phase of the Journey to Adulthood Youth Christian education program. Our group has chosen an outreach mission project to help provide winter clothing for needy children at Walker Spivey Elementary School. Our plan is to collect warm jackets, hats, and mittens during November and December for distribution to children who need warm outer clothing. We will display samples and size information of the items we're asking parishioners to donate and will provide envelopes for those who prefer to contribute financial support instead of an in-kind donation.

Please contact any member of the Young Adults in the Church for more information or their advisors, Mary Holmes and Dick Kells
