Commemoration of the Baptisms of Manteo & Virginia Dare

This Sunday we will reflect on the baptisms of Manteo and Virginia Dare.

Manteo was the first Native American baptized into the Church of England at Roanoke Island in 1587. He was originally part of the Croatoan tribe, and spent much of his time helping the first settlers in the North Carolina area survive.

Soon after, infant Virginia Dare became the first English child born to settlers in the United States, and she too was baptized in the Church of England. More information can be found at National Geographic's website.
