Children's Christian
Formation Opportunities

"Train a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it." Proverbs 22:6

We welcome children to stay in church for the entire 10:30 a.m. Sunday service but realize that sometimes another creative outlet may be more meaningful. To address this need, St. John’s offers children two Sunday Christian Formation Opportunities for the 10:30 a.m. Service.

Children’s Chapel / Sunday School

Children’s Chapel / Sunday School for preschoolers through 3rd graders provides a “Sunday School” lesson along with an interactive, age-appropriate Chapel experience designed especially for this age group. Volunteers and children assemble outside the Chapel by 10:15 a.m. to join in the 10:30am service processional. (If your child is in the congregation when the procession begins, they are welcome to join the group at this time.)  Volunteers then lead the children to the Children’s Chapel for their special service. During the Peace, volunteers return children to the 10:30 am service so families may celebrate the Holy Eucharist together.

Quiet Bags

Quiet Bags are available in the narthex and the inside entrance into the church near the Sacristy for children to take into the 10:30 a.m. service. This creative opportunity includes a Bible story booklet, quiet game sheets and coloring pages for your child to use now and take home with them. Once the service concludes, please return the bags with clip boards and crayons inside so they may be refurbished for the next Sunday.

Nursery

Although young children are always welcome to come with their parents to participate in the church activities, St. John’s also offers a first class nursery for your children.  Our Nursery is staffed with loving, well-qualified, and experienced nursery caregivers.  Nursery care is available on Sunday Mornings for ages 0-2 from 9 a.m. to noon September through May, and from 10 a.m. to noon June through August. Nursery pagers are available for your convenience.
