Welcome to St. John’s

The Rev. Robert M. Alve

Our congregation has been worshiping God and serving Christ in the heart of historic downtown Fayetteville, North Carolina since 1817. Each Sunday we gather in holy space surrounded by century old stained glass windows to worship God with words and music which are rooted in the Anglican liturgical tradition. We are particularly blessed every week with exceptional music provided by our organist, choristers and instrumentalists which inspire and lift the spirit. As we experience the presence and power of God in the moment we are strengthened by the  knowledge that  our faith is grounded in the ancient and eternal.

Holy Communion, also known as the Lord’s Supper, is celebrated every Sunday reminding us that the living Christ is in our midst calling us into deeper community and giving us strength to continue his ministry in the world. Our worship is supported by a host of lay leadership including acolytes, an altar guild, chalice bearers, choristers, greeters, readers, and ushers.

St. John’s strives to be a vibrant community of Christians who are beacons of joy and hope in our community and world. We are a center for Christian Formation and education for children, youth, and adults. Over seventy of our members serve on our Pastoral Care Committee. Our Parish Family Life committee provides a rich variety of fellowship opportunities including: Sunday morning breakfasts, Wednesday night dinners and an annual Parish Beach Weekend. In addition, the parish hosts a coffee hour in Hauser Hall or the Kyle House following the 10:30 service.

A strong commitment to outreach has been a part of St. John’s since our founding and continues through the work of the Outreach and Philanthropies Committees. Our hands-on outreach involvement includes participation in Operation Inasmuch, the Salvation Army and Cumberland Interfaith Hospitality Network.
